Galinsoga parviflora of family Asteraceae, is an annual herb which is commonly known as Gallant soldier. Traditionally, fresh leaves and juice of the plant have been used as medicine globally to treat dermatological disorders including eczema, lichen, non-healing and bleeding wounds. It was also administered orally to cure common cold, flu and cold sores. It can be taken when there is deficiency of vitamin C due to the high level of vitamin C in the plant. The aqueous extracts of aerial parts of plant have protective effects against damages due to UV radiation. As the plant is used as food for making salad and soups in Latin and North America, it shows that the plant is non-toxic. Studies indicates the plant has wide range of pharmacological activities including antioxidant, hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cytotoxic, nematicidal and antidiabetic activities, etc and these pharmacological activities are due to presence of various phytochemicals like flavonoids, steroids, phenolic acid and caffeic acid derivatives, essential oil constituents, etc. The present review summarizes the research work carried out on this plant in order to provide updated information for future works.
